Expert Tips to Look Stylish on a Budget

#1. Shop with a plan

Firstly you need to assess what you have in your current wardrobe. Which pieces need to be updated or where does your wardrobe lack. Make a list, you don’t have to buy it all at once, just mark items off once purchased and review your list before you hit the shops again.

#2. Dress for the body you have now

I regularly hear “when I drop and dress size” or “when I complete my 8-week challenge”, but we all need outfits options that make us feel good about the body we have now. The wrong size or fit can make you look a size bigger than you are, alternatively, the right size and fit will make you look a size smaller. So stop waiting. With the right knowledge, you can look amazing just as you are.

#3. Focus on fit

For most of us made-to-measure, bespoke or couture garments are a little out of reach for our everyday wardrobe, so when purchasing ready-to-wear garments factor in the cost to have it altered for a perfect fit. An outfit that fits perfectly looks more expensive. Purchase the size that fits your widest part and then have it altered to fit like a glove.

#4. Quality over quantity

While there are exceptions, you generally get what you pay for. Cheap items tend to be poorly made, in unflattering cuts and from cheap fabrics that pill or lose shape. Better quality items will last longer; costing less in terms of cost-per-wear. So purchase the best quality you can afford.

#5. Second hand is the new black

Buying second hand is a great way to get quality pieces, even vintage and designer. Plus selling items you no longer wear gives them a second life and adds funds to the shopping budget.

#6. Shop your wardrobe

Most women only wear about 20% of the clothes in their wardrobe. Pull everything out and try it on, get creative and try new combinations, consider dying or altering items to give them a new lease on life.

#7. Statement accessories

Accessories are a great way to add interest to a classic/minimalist wardrobe. It is also a fun way to show off your personality. Not sure a new trend is for you, try an inexpensive accessories as see how it feels.

#8. Shop off-season

So this one requires both planning and patience but rewards you with big dollar savings, particularly for your investment winter jackets and coats. Plus it is fun when the chills come back into the air and you can pull out your beautiful news winter clothes you have been waiting 6 months to wear.
